If you’ve never had an interest in football, basketball or rugby, you probably don’t get many chances to engage in sporting activities. That is a real shame because exercise is one of the best ways to ensure you stay in good health and limit the amount of weight you gain over the course of a year. With all this in mind, we’re going to spend some time this morning looking at some slightly unusual sports you might like to try this summer. A simple online search will show you who you need to get in touch with to make arrangements in your local area, so there’s no excuse for not getting involved. At the end of the day, you might even meet some like-minded people who could become close friends over time.
Of course, this isn’t an extensive list, and there are plenty of other unusual sports you could try. Extreme ironing, though not technically a sport is incredibly popular at the moment, so perhaps those of you with a good sense of humour might be interested in that. Alternatively, you could sample the delights of some of the suggestions made below…
While arm wrestling has been around for thousands of years, fewer and fewer people have been taking it up in recent times. That means there’s less competition, and so you stand a better chance of getting somewhere when entering competitions. All you have to do training-wise is lift a few weights and practice your grip. Sure, you might fail miserably during every single bout, but as the old saying goes “it’s the taking part that counts.”
So long as you’re comfortable handling firearms with live ammo, shooting can be a fantastic activity that all your friends are sure to enjoy. That means arranging at day at the range can be a social event. Just make sure you don’t bring anyone along who’s incapable of acting like an adult, as range owners tend to take a dim view of anyone who doesn’t take the activity seriously. Obviously, it’s incredibly easy to injure yourself and others, so it’s essential that everyone in your party remains sensible at all times.
Yes, that’s right folks, there is such a thing as underwater hockey. In fact, at the current time, there are more than 50 professional underwater hockey teams in the world, and they’re constantly competing for awards and official titles. Again, a simple online search will tell you exactly who to get in touch with if you want to get involved. As you can probably imagine, this is a hilarious sport to play, but it also helps you to get a lot of exercise. If you thought running around a hockey pitch was hard work, just imagine what effect of doing this underwater has on your muscles.
That’s it from me today, but hopefully, reading about some of those unusual sports has inspired you to get out of the house and try something new this summer.
Have lots of fun guys!
